Troubleshooting Discovery+ on Samsung TVs: Fixing Playback and DRM Errors

Fix Discovery+ playback and DRM errors on your Samsung TV with these steps.

Fix Playback Issues

If the app freezes, buffers, or shows a black screen, start with a power cycle. This clears temporary glitches in the TV's memory.

  • Cold Boot your TV: Unplug your Samsung TV from the wall outlet. Wait at least 60 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on.

  • Restart your Router: Unplug your internet router. Wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. This refreshes your connection.

  • Reinstall the App: Highlight the Discovery+ app on your home screen. Press and hold the Select button. Choose Delete. Go to the Samsung App Store, search for Discovery+, and install it again.

Resolve DRM Errors

DRM (Digital Rights Management) errors protect content from piracy but can block legitimate playback. These often appear as "HDCP Unauthorized" or generic error codes.

  • Update TV Software: Outdated firmware often causes DRM conflicts. Go to Settings > Support > Software Update. Select Update Now.

  • Check HDMI Connections: If you use an external streaming device (like a Roku or Fire Stick) connected to your Samsung TV, unplug and reseat the HDMI cables. If you use the built-in TV app, disconnect other HDMI devices temporarily to reset the HDCP handshake.

  • Disable VPNs: Turn off any VPN or proxy services running on your network. These interfere with location verification and trigger DRM blocks.

Reactivate Your Account

Corrupted login data causes many errors. Sign out and link your device again using discovery plus.com/samsung.

  1. Open the Discovery+ app and go to Settings or Account.

  2. Select Sign Out.

  3. Select Sign In to generate a new 6-digit activation code.

On your phone or computer, visit discovery plus.com/samsung.

  1. Log in to your account and enter the code displayed on your TV.

Check Internet Speed

Your TV needs a steady connection. Discovery+ requires at least 4 Mbps for HD content.

  1. Open the web browser on your Samsung TV.

  2. Visit a speed test website.

  3. If your speed is low, move your router closer to the TV or use an Ethernet cable for a wired connection.
